Elburn 'Pete' Clyde Rice
PALISADE -- Elburn "Pete" Clyde Rice of Palisade died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at McCook Community Hospital. He was 79 years old.
Pete was born February 12, 1927 to Floyd and Gladys (Cole) Rice at Palisade. He graduated from Palisade High School in 1945 and Doane College in 1950. He played football and baseball while attending Doane and also for the McCook Cats. On March 20, 1945 he entered the US Navy. He served during World War II and was honorably discharged on July 23, 1946.
On February 5, 1950, he married Bette McKillip at Genoa. To this union three children were born. They made their home on a farm west of Palisade where he raised registered Angus Cattle.
Pete was a member of the Palisade United Methodist Church; Palisade Masonic Lodge #216, Bethel Chapter O.E.S., the Palisade American Legion Post #318 and VFW Post #7028.
Pete sang for many weddings, funerals and special occasions. He was an avid golfer and Husker fan attending many of their games including the bowl games. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd and Gladys Rice; and one sister, Roberta Lebbs.
Survivors include his wife, Bette Rice of Palisade; two sons, Michael "Mick" Rice and wife, Diane, of Spokane, Wash. and Kirk Rice and wife, Connie, of Weskan, Kan.; one daughter, Barbara and husband, Gary Hinz, of McCook; eight grandchildren, Ty, Charice, Justin, Brianne, Katie, Nicholas, Patrick and Austin; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in his name to the Palisade United Methodist Church, Palisade Community Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until noon and Sunday from 4 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 12, 2006, 11 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Judy Dye officiating. Burial will be in the Palisade Cemetery.
