FCB Juniors split twinbill at North Platte
NORTH PLATTE -- The McCook First Central Bank Juniors American Legion baseball squad split a doubleheader with North Platte.
The doubleheader was played Wednesday at Bill Wood Field in North Platte.
The Juniors won the opener from the North Platte Junior Platters 4-1 and lost the second game 13-5 in a five-inning run-rule game.
FCB is 5-6 this summer and North Platte is now 10-4.
In the opener, McCook scored all four of its runs in the top of the first inning. The inning began with back-to-back walks.
North Platte could muster just four hits and left 10 runners on base.
In the second game, the Junior Platters scored three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a Shane Weaver home run.
McCook scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 5-3 lead, but North Platte scored seven runs on five hits and three McCook errors.
North Platte relief pitcher Dillon Messersmith struck out the side in the fourth inning. The Junior Platters tacked on one run in the third and two in the fifth to end the game on the eight-run rule.
The Juniors play a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Friday against the North Platte traveling team at North Platte.
McCook hosts a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday against North Platte.
MNB Seniors
The McCook National Bank Seniors host a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday against Colby.
The Seniors compete in the Crete Tournament this weekend.
MNB plays Seward at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sunday, the Seniors play Crete at noon and Waverly at 2:30 p.m.
