Potthoff, Sughroue shut down Imperial

Joyce Potthoff McCook National Bank Seniors' Brad Potthoff pitches against Imperial Wednesday night at Imperial. Potthoff and Alex Sughroue combined for a four-hitter as the MNB Seniors handed Imperial a 5-2 loss. MNB hosts a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Thursday against Sidney and competes at the Chadron Tournament Friday through Sunday.

IMPERIAL -- McCook National Bank pitchers Brad Potthoff and Alex Sughroue combined on a four-hitter Thursday as the MNB Seniors handed Imperial a 5-2 loss.

The game was played at Imperial. A Juniors level Legion game was canceled.

Potthoff started on the mound for the MNB Seniors and pitched five innings. He allowed one run and three hits, walked one and struck out three in picking up the team's second win of the summer.

Sughroue worked the final two innings for the save. He allowed one run on one hit. He didn't record any walks or strikeouts.

With Potthoff on the mound, Tom Larson was the starting catcher for the Seniors. He doubled, walked, scored two runs and stole a base.

McCook scored single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth innings and added two in the sixth.

Brett Burton, Andrew Reitz and Brandon Kotschwar had RBI singles. Potthoff, Kotschwar and Ryan Eder scored the other runs.

Ryan Bartels pitched a complete game for the Imperial Legion squad. In seven innings, he allowed five runs on four hits, walked three and struck out three.

Imperial scored single tallies in the third and sixth innings.

Gabe Lenners doubled for Imperial. Darrin Schultz and Scott Way each had an RBI single. Sean Munger singled. Way and Munger each scored a run.

MNB hosts a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Thursday against Sidney.

MNB competes at the Chadron Tournament Saturday Sunday.

McCook plays Ainsworth at 2:30 p.m. and Valentine at 5 p.m. Saturday. MNB plays Gordon at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The FCB Juniors play a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Sidney and compete at the Lexington Tournament Friday and Saturday.

The McCook Midgets were slated to play a home twinbill against Lexington Thursday. The Midgets host a doubleheader against Curtis at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Imperial (1-2) hosts Hershland at 7 p.m. mountain time Friday and plays at Cozad at 4:30 p.m. central time Sunday.
