MNB Seniors swept by North Platte
The McCook National Bank Seniors dropped both ends of their first home doubleheader Thursday night to North Platte.
North Platte won the opener 13-3 at the Jaycees Sports Complex and then shut out MNB 8-0 in the second game.
The MNB Seniors (0-3) mustered 10 hits in two games against North Platte pitchers Joe Beckman and Sam McGill, who hurled complete games.
In the first game, North Platte scored one run in the top of the first inning, two in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and five in the seventh off 10 hits.
The Seniors started Evan Koetter on the mound, and followed with Alex Sughroue and Kalen Morgan. The catcher was Brad Potthoff.
MNB scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and one in the fifth on five hits.
Brett Burton, Colton Cochran, Koetter, Ryan Eder and Sughroue singled.
In the second game, Eder pitched a complete game and got the loss for the MNB seniors. In seven innings, he allowed eight runs on four hits, walked five and struck out five.
Brandon Kotschwar had three of McCook's five hits -- two singles and a double. Sam Frazier and Andrew Reitz had singles.
North Platte scored one run in the top of the second inning, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.
McCook's Juniors and Seniors teams host their annual Memorial Day Tournament Sunday and Monday. Also competing are Imperial, Ogallala and Gothenburg.
In the Juniors Tournament Sunday, the McCook FCB Juniors play Gothenburg at noon, followed by Ogallala vs. Imperial at 2:30 p.m.
The third-place game is at 5 p.m., followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.
In the Seniors Tournament on Monday, the MNB Seniors play Gothenburg at noon, followed by Ogallala vs. Imperial at 2:30 p.m.
