HOLDREGE -- Inez Vesta Taylor, 96, of Holdrege, formerly of Oxford, died Saturday (April 22, 2006) at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.

She was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Norton, Kan., the fifth of 11 children of Orin E. and Ida M. (Wetzler) Severns. She received her education in Norton.

She married Marvin Taylor. The family made their home on a farm near Almena, Kan. In the early '40s, she worked as a housekeeper and did ironing for several area families. In 1944, she was employed by the Norton Lumber Co., where she did bookkeeping and was the assistant manager.

On Sept. 19, 1944, she married Everett D. Taylor. The couple farmed northwest of Oxford and operated Taylor Produce. She worked as a cook at the Oxford Nursing Home and also made storm windows for Better Buys for a few years. She was employed as a nursing assistant at Methodist Memorial Homes in Holdrege until 1968.

From 1968 to 1974, she was employed at Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege until her retirement. During her retirement years, she helped as a nursing assistant at the nursing home and hospital and also did some in home nursing for several families.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Oxford. She served as a 4-H leader and served on the 4-H council in Furnas County, and served as past president of the P.T.A. for District No. 17 school.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett in 2000; a son Walter Taylor; daughter Avis Johnson, two sisters Zelia Hines and Reva Smith; and five brothers, Ross, Rex, Bernell, Vern and Keith Severns.

She is survived by six children, Herb and wife, Susan Taylor, of Nashville, Tenn., Dixie Green and husband, Leland of Funk, Judy Tadlock of Oxford, Zona Fritz and husband, Ronald of McCook, Gloria Egge of Shelton, Nancy Fry of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Anita Taylor of Maryland; one brother, Dale Severns and wife, Katherine; two sisters, Nina Melroy and Ila Zellmer, all of Norton; and a host or grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St John's Lutheran Church in Oxford with the Rev. Kenton Birtell and Vicar Dale Hedstrom officiating. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford, with family greeting from 6:30 p.m. to8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in her name.
