McCook Community College sophomore Adam Vaden of Kansas City has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball and has received a full-ride scholarship to attend Regis University in Denver this fall.
"This is a major scholarship in terms of the dollar value and a deserving honor for a hard-working student athlete who had a very strong year," MCC men's basketball coach Ty Orton said.
Vaden is a 6-foot-1 guard who averaged 8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal per game this past season for the MCC squad. He received honorable mention as an all-conference player. Orton said a couple ankle injuries preventing Vaden from having an even stronger year.
This marks the second year in which an MCC player has gone on to Regis. Vaden follows former MCC standout Brandon Butler to the Denver campus.
"I probably talk to Brandon every week and he talked a lot about the system at Regis and a lot about the academics, because that scholarship meant a lot to him and I'm looking forward to it too," Vaden said.
The business major will work this summer for an employment agency in the Kansas City area for The Full Employment Council, a business-led, private, nonprofit corporation whose mission is to obtain public and private sector employment for the unemployed and underemployed residents of the Greater Kansas City area.
Vaden said his prime interest in business is in the real estate industry. He said he spent a lot of time as growing up helping his father fix up houses for market.
