MONTROSE, Colo. -- Gladys Cress, 92, died Sunday (Oct. 2, 2005) at the Valley Manor nursing home in Montrose, Colo.

She was born Dec. 15, 1912, Louisa County, Iowa, to Miles and Cora Nicholson Latta.

She married Merritt Wehmeyer on Aug. 1, 1932, in Rock Island, Ill. The couple farmed in Riverside, Iowa. Merritt preceded her in death. She married Robert Cress on Aug. 20, 1954, in Kalona, Iowa. The couple later ran a motel and cafe in Culbertson. They moved to Montrose in 1988.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in Olathe, Colo., and was a Sunday School teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Merritt; and three sisters, Mildred, Myrtle and Goldie.

Survivors include her husband, Bob of Montrose; son, Gary and wife Cathy Wehmeyer of Montrose; daughters, Janice and husband, Ralph Schnoebelen of Riverside, Donna and husband, Gary Dexter of Winfield, Kan., and Shirley and husband, Michael Canavan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Thursday at the Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City, Iowa.
