Five more McCook CC athletes sign with four-year schools

letters of intent
Six of the seven sophomores on the McCook Community College men's basketball team have now signed letters of intent to play at four-year schools, according to MCC coach Ty Orton.
Two of MCC's women's players are continuing their careers in Iowa.
An all-conference guard and a pair of European-born players who excelled on and off the court for the MCC men, are the latest to receive scholarship offers to continue their basketball careers.
Orton said Craig Wamsley, 6-foot-2 guard from Cheyenne Wells High School in Colorado, signed a letter of intent Monday to play basketball this fall at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Wamsley was named to the academic all-conference team, the academic all-region, Academic all-American, 1st team all-Conference, and 1st team All-Omaha-World Herald.
This past season, he averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds per game.
He was also among the leading 3-point shooters in the region connecting on 48 percent of his 48 attempts.
Wamsley was also among the Region's best field goal shooters, connecting for about 61 percent of his shots from the floor.
In addition he was one of the team's best defenders according to Orton.
Wamsley, fielded offers from eight Division II and NAIA schools.
They join a pair of MCC sophomores headed to Black Hills State and one headed to Regis in Denver.
He will join two players on the MCC women's squad signed to play at William Penn next season -- Shawna Quevedo, 5-4 sophomore from Bridgeport and Susan Pachek, 5-7 sophomore from Wiggins, Colo.
Christian Marcu, 6-1 guard from Munich, Germany has signed a letter of intent to play at Hawaii Pacific University.
Maarten Esveldt, 6-8, from Weert, The Netherlands, will play at Point Loma University.
Both players received academic all-conference, academic all-region and academic All-American status during their careers at MCC.
Brandon Butler, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from John F. Kennedy High School in New Orleans, will play basketball at Regis University, an NCAA Division II program.
According to Orton, Butler received a three-year, $100,000 scholarship.
He will major in education. Butler was the Nebraska Community College Activities Association Player of the Year and a First Team Region IX selection.
He considered offers from seven NCAA Division I programs and 40 schools total
Butler finished his career as MCC's third all-time leading scorer with 954 points.
He averaged 17 points per game and averaged 8 rebounds and was among the top field goal shooters in the Region.
For his career at MCC, he averaged 16.5 points, 8 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Andre Goldberg, a 6-foot guard from Boulder, Colo., and Jacob Deines, a 6-foot guard from Ravenna, both signed with Black Hills State University.
Black Hills State is an NAIA Division II school located in Spearfish, S.D.
Goldberg, who was an honorable mention NCCAC and Omaha World Herald selection, said he will play immediately at Black Hills State.
Goldberg plans to major in education and English at Black Hills State.
He averaged 8 points, 5 assists and and 4 rebounds per game.
He was third in the region in assists and shot 40 percent from beyond the 3-point line.
MCC finished the season with an 18-14 record.
The Indians finished as NCCAC Conference Co-champs and the East Sub-region co-champions.
Orton was selected as the top coach from the Region's 17 coaches in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.
