A complete game four-hitter recorded by Ryan Eder, boosted the First Central Bank Juniors to a 7-3 victory over North Platte on Friday night.

The Juniors split a pair of games in North Platte to start off their season.

"Overall everything went excellent. I had a chance to watch everyone play, and everyone got to bat, so I felt things went very well," head coach Steve Cochran said.

Eder also led the Juniors at the plate, by going 2 for 4 with two runs scored. On the mound, he struck out five and gave up two earned runs in the 104-pitch performance.

"Ryan threw a great game for us to start off the season by only giving up four hits," Cochran said.

In the nightcap, North Platte edged out First Central 9-8. Lance Korte provided the lone hit for the Juniors who put up all of their runs in the final inning.

"We will definitely need to work on our hitting since we only had one base hit in the second game. We tried to use it as a learning experience, to get better from that game," Cochran said.

Sam Frazier and Dillon Gotl shared duties on the mound and only gave up two earned runs, but walked 11.

"We were up by three going into the bottom half of the last inning, but walks killed us," Cochran said.

The First Central Bank Juniors (1-1) will be back in action on Wednesday for a double header at Hastings.

McCook Midgets

split with NP

The McCook Midgets held off a seventh inning rally by North Platte to win the first of two games at the Jaycees Complex on Saturday.

McCook defeated North Platte 9-8 in the first game and lost 16-6 in Game 2.

"I was pleased with how things went today. Jeff Lorentz threw a fantastic ball game by going 6 1/3 innings and Austin Larson pulled out the save," head coach Mike Broomfield said.

Brady Chancellor led the Midgets with three singles and two runs scored. Cody Broomfield and Larson also added to the nine total hits with two apiece.

In the second game, Brady Chancellor, Chance Pearson and Nate Gleason were on the mound for McCook.

"We wanted to get some different pitchers in the second game. They hit the ball well off them, and we walked too many of their batters," Broomfield said.

Nick Kenny and Nate Gleason had McCook's only two hits of the game.

Sunday night at Hayes Center, the McCook Midgets dropped another one-run decision.

Tyler Clifford knocked in the game-winning run to slip by the Midgets 6-5.
