Joseph 'Bob' Brown
(Jan. 19, 1922 - May 12, 2005)
CAMBRIDGE -- Joseph "Bob" Brown, 83, died Thursday (May 12, 2005), at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
He was born near Cambridge on the family farm in Furnas County. He attended Cambridge Elementary School in Cambridge for a short time. His chores of delivering milk in the mornings made it hard to get to school on time, so his parents conceded and let him attend rural school. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1940.
He married Phillis Sorensen on Feb. 7, 1945, at Cambridge. They farmed south of Cambridge that was homestead by his parents in 1884.
He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. John Neumann Council, a member of the Fourth Degree of McCook Knights of Columbus Roncolli Academy, T-Bone Club, Wheat Growers Association, and the National Farmers Organization.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, Lawrence and Charles; and infant sister, Frances.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Jeanie and husband, Kevin Allen of Aurora; two sons, Joe and wife, Linda of Hays, Kan., and Jerry, and wife, Nancy of Cambridge; two brothers, John C. Brown of Cambridge and Albert, and wife, Florence Brown of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited today at 7:30 p.m. at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge. Inurnment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery of Cambridge. An Honor Guard of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will provide an Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
