Elwood offering free land to homebuilders
ELWOOD -- Elwood's village board bought 5.3 acres of land that will developed into lots to be given away free to anyone who will build houses on them. Board members hope the offer brings new residents to the community.
The Elwood Bulletin reports that board members approved the land purchase at their meeting Monday. The land cost $30,000.
The undeveloped area, known as the Wheatfield Addition and located north of the Gosper County fairgrounds, has been annexed and is platted for 15 lots, each one approximately 110 feet by 115 feet.
The Bulletin reports that taxes on the land and new homes over the next 15 years will go back to the village, which will thus be reimbursed for the land purchase and the cost of the development of the area's infrastructure.
