Eva R. Petersen

SUTHERLAND -- Eva R. Peterson, 96, died Monday (April 18, 2005) in Sutherland.
She was born July 11, 1908, to Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Culbertson in McCook. She attended school there and graduated from high school in 1926. She was one of the first students to attend McCook Junior College in 1927. She attended nursing school in Omaha for one years.
On Dec. 20, 1931, she married Edward J. Petersen Jr. The couple co-owned the Ideal Laundry and Cleaners in McCook with her husband's brother, Kenneth. Her husband preceded her in death in 1977. She was working at Hillcrest Nursing Home when she retired in 1982 at the age of 74. She moved a year later to Hershey. She was a volunteer at Hershey Public Schools as a math and reading tutor and worked for Green Thumb as a bookkeeper for the senior center in Hershey for four years. She then worked as a para-educator for the Hershey Schools for about 10 years.
She was a member of the Hershey Baptist Church for 22 years and taught Sunday school there. She also worked with AWANA and was a deaconess for five years.
Survivors include her children, Robert and wife, Barbara Petersen of Wichita, Kan., and Diane and husband, Dewayne Tillman of Hershey; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services are Friday, 1:30 p.m., at the Hershey Baptist Church in Hershey with the Rev. Ned Horsfall officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Visitation is today and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m., with the family receiving friends Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
