McCook wrestlers sweep Cambridge, Gothenburg squads

CAMBRIDGE -- The McCook High School wrestling team swept Cambridge and Gothenburg at a triangular Tuesday night at Cambridge.

The Bison defeated Gothenburg 57-24 and Cambridge 54-24.

The Bison will host a Freshman/Sophomore Open Meet at 4 p.m. Thursday and the varsity team competes at the Valentine Invitational at 10 a.m. Staurday.

"Overall the team did an excellent job," said McCook wrestling coach Nick Umscheid. "This was our first dual meet competition and I believe everybody worked together in gaining two dominating victories. I thought we matched up pretty well with Gothenburg and that the score might have been a little closer but our guys wrestled with a lot of heart and really stepped it up on the mat. Jon McCart improved his record to 8-1 and is looking really dominating on the mat.

"Dallas Korus was back in action Tuesday and put on a very workman like performance improving his record to 3-2. It will be fun and exciting to see how we compete up there at Valentine," Umscheid said. "It will be a good measuring stick as to where we stand at this time a year against some of the better wrestlers in the state."
