Ronald J. Coleman, 52 of McCook died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.
He was born to Wilbur M. and Hilda Olga (Prochaska) Coleman on May 30, 1952, in David City. He graduated from David City Aquinas High School in 1970. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he played football. He transferred to at Southeastern State College in Durante, Okla., and continued playing football. He graduated in 1974 with a degree in physical education.
On Dec. 29, 1973, he married Joan Miriovsky in Brainard. He taught in Barnston in 1976-78 where he was the head coach for all sports and P.E. for grades one through twelve. He moved to McCook in 1978. He has been assistant football, basketball and track coach; head coach for the golf program and the elementary physical education teacher and the last two years he taught high school P.E. Ron especially enjoyed coaching and being able to pass on his passion, love and knowledge to every athlete he came in contact with throughout life.
Ron gained knowledge and expertise in his favorite sport, the game of golf. Ron used this passion to teach the beginner or anyone who wanted to improve his or her game. This was evident by his coaching records. You never doubted his desire to win in any aspect of his shortened life.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Joan of McCook; two sons, Justin and wife, Chandra Coleman of Omaha and Clint of Minden; three brothers, Gene and wife, Betty of Lincoln, Ray and wife, Elaine of Lincoln, Steve and wife, KayLynn of Fremont; two sisters, Margaret and husband, Larry Mach of Weston and Marie and husband, Dan Pallat of Ulysses; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Beatta Miriovsky of David City; extended family and many close friends.
Memorials are being accepted in his name
Public visitation will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friends may go online at www.carpenterbreland.com to extend condolences.
Rosary will be Friday evening at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 7 p.m.
A memorial service will be Saturday at the McCook High School Gymnasium at 9:30 a.m., and mass of Christian burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 11 a.m., with Father Gary Brethour and Msgr. Adrian Herbek officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
