State volleyball: Season ends for Dundy County
LINCOLN -- A record-setting season for the Dundy County volleyball team Friday when the Tigers lost to Lawrence-Nelson in the first round of the Nebraska Class D-1 state tournament.
The opening rounds of the Class D-1 state tournament were played at Lincoln Southwest High School.
The Raiders defeated the Tigers in four games 27-25, 22-25, 25-13, 25-22.
The Tigers finished the season with a school record 23 victories against eight defeats.
Six seniors played their final match for the Tigers -- Annette Case, Heather Morris, Brooke Olson, Mallory Williams, Emily Hudson and Shelby Wilson.
Lawrence-Nelson jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first game and led 19-12 before the Tigers battled back to tie the score at 21-21.
The Raiders extended the lead to 24-21 before the Tigers tied the score at 25-25.
The Raiders scored the final 2 points.
Dundy County rallied from a 17-7 deficit to win Game 2.
The two teams fought toe-to-toe in Game 3 before the Raiders scored the final 5 points.
Dundy County could not get untracked in Game 4.
"They're a real good team (Lawrence-Nelson)," said Dundy County coach Bill Wilson during a postgame radio interview with the Prarie's Steve Stein. "We did all right. They were a better team today.
"We missed a lot of serves and had too many unforced errors. We couldn't get anything going.
"We're going to miss these senior girls. They had a good season. Several of them will go to play volleyball in college."
In Class C2 state tournament action Friday afternoon, Southwest played Thayer Central.
