GERING -- Ruth Wilma Corcoran, 95, died Saturday (Sept. 11, 2004) at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering.
She was born Jan. 15, 1909, to Charles N. and Maude M. (Oelkers) Rogers on her grandfather's farm in Cloud County, Kan. She attended grade school in Cloud County until she was 11. The family then moved to Trego County in Western Kansas. She attended high school in Herndon. In 1929, she moved to McCook and starting working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On Dec. 12, 1930, she married James Corcoran in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. She worked part time for the telephone company and in 1943 she worked for the Air Force in the communications department at the McCook Air Base. In 1951, the couple moved to Mitchell where they lived for 12 years. They then moved to the Scottsbluff-Gering area in 1963. She worked for JC Penney Company in Scottsbluff for 10 years. She retired in 1974.
She was a member of the Christ the King and Altar Society of Gering.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Oct. 15, 1989; infant son, Rodney; infant grandson; brother, Warren Rogers; and two sisters, Mildred Gammon and Faith Rhoades.
Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn Duke of Gering; two brothers, Bill Rogers and wife, Cula of Orrstown, Pa., and LaVern Rogers and wife, Fran of Los Alamos, N.M.; three sisters, Erma Hillman of Powell, Wyo., Jean Bottger and husband, Blair of Yakima, Wash., and Betty Rhoades of Wakeeney, Kan.; brother-in-law, Charles Corcoran of Oberlin, Kan.; sister-in-law, Linda Rogers of Worland, Wyo.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services are were today, 10 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering with the Rev. Gerald Harr officiating. Interment was in the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering.
