Mildred Sophie Agnes Niermeier, 84, died Monday (Sept. 6, 2004) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1919, at Palmer to Herbert Albert John and Anna Sophie (Nietfeld) Dankert. She attended rural school near Palmer. She later worked for neighboring families taking care of their children.

On Oct. 6, 1940, she married Erich Friedrich Wilhelm Niermeier at Zion Lutheran Church in Wurms. They made their home on a farm four miles north of Ludell. Mildred helped her husband on the farm and was a homemaker. They retired in 1976, and moved to McCook.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. She served on various church committees and helped with making quilts for missions and blankets for children at the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Anna Dankert; her husband, Erich Niermeier; a daughter, Ann Castens; one sister, Florence Kanter; two brothers, Alfred and Elton Dankert; and two great-grandsons, Derek and Cole Craig.

Survivors include one son, Clarence Niermeier and wife Margaret of Ludell; four daughters, Sharon and husband, Robert Frossard of Sterling, Colo., Marjorie and husband, Harold Junker of Hastings, Lucille and husband, Charles Stoelting, of Marengo, Iowa and Joann and husband, Bob Nemechek of McCook; one brother, Melvin Dankert and wife, Loris of Palmer; two sisters, Lorraine Fleishacker of Colby, Kan., and Wilma Uden of Hastings; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given in her name.

Funeral services will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Randy Wahl officiating. Burial will be in Emmanuel Cemetery at Ludell at 2 p.m.
