Furnas County Juniors Legion baseball update

CAMBRIDGE -- The Alma Juniors got a little revenge as they came from behind to defeat the Furnas County Junior Baseball team 10-7.

FC led 6-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, but allowed Alma to cross the plate four times and change the momentum, which led to the three-run defeat.

Josh Keener and Tony Braithwait shared mound duties, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, six walks, and five strikeouts.

First baseman Anthony Lytle led the FC offense, going three for four with two runs scored.

Waid Vontz, Mike Powell and Blake Maaske also reached safely and each was credited with an RBI. Keener and Gavin Fults both had base raps.

earns twinbill split

Furnas County lost to Cozad 8-6 and defeated Benkelman 12-5.

The Furnas County Juniors were defeated in come-from-behind fashion for the second game in a row as Cozad tied the contest in the fifth and then put three on the board m the lop of the seventh to earn the win.

Cozad took advantage of a couple FC errors used a solo home run, and timely hitting in the seventh to garner the victory.

FC pitcher Braithwait worked six innings, fanned seven, allowed only one earned run on five hits and walked four.

Powell had an outstanding game at the plate, hitting safely four out of four appearances, scoring one run and knocking in two.

Brett Cribelli, Lytle and Jackson Johnson each had a hit and an RBI.

Fumas County got off to a slow start in the second contest of the evening but turned things around and won going away over the Benkelman Juniors.

Powell brought his A game to the ballpark as he earned the win from the mound and also produced at the plate.

Powell relieved Keener in the second mnmg and limited Benkelman to two runs on two hits, struck out seven and allowed tour walks.

Powell was two for four with two runs. Lytle was two for three with two runs scored and one RBI.

Braithwait went two for three with two runs scored. Fults was two for three with three urns scored.

Collecting one hit each were Keener, Brett Cribelli and Bo Cribelli.

Also moving the ball around and collecting RBIs were Adam Snyder wilh two and Johnson with one.

Furnas County

defeats Gothenburg

Having been defeated by Class B Gothenburg by nine runs one week earlier, the Furnas County Juniors turned the table and defeated the Melons by eight runs this past Sunday at Gothenburg.

Powell once again led the offensive attack, as he was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Powell is 10-for-12 over the last three games.

Johnson was credited with two RBIs. Braithwait, Lytle, Maaske and Brett Cribelli each had a base knock with one RBI.

Keener was strong on the hill as he worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing only four hits (one earned), five walks and two strikeouts. Lytle got the final two outs to preserve the victory.

Furnas currently has a 12-7 record. Next action will be at Holdrege Tuesday -- the season finale.

FC will play the Overton Juniors in first-round Area 7 Tournament play at at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ravenna.
