Jessica Allberry earns honors for volleyball at CCC-Columbus
COLUMBUS -- Jessica Allberry of McCook was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Little King Invitational and received All-Nebraska Community College Athletic Association, All-Region IX East and Region IX All-Tourney Team volleyball honors.
Allberry was a member of the 2003 Raiders volleyball team at Central Community College-Columbus. She tallied 332 kills and had 60 stuff blocks. She also had 39 aces and 305 digs.
"Jessica had a great freshman season," said Raiders' coach Mary Young. "She was consistently a force for us from the outside hitter position and really made great strides as the year progressed. We're thrilled to have her in our program and anxiously await her second season as a Raider."
Allberry is a graduate of McCook High School and is the daughter of Robert Allberry of North Platte and Kathy Kugler of Aurora.
Rep Valley wrestlers split duals at Bertrand Triangular
BERTRAND -- The Republican Valley wrestling team splits its two duals Thursday at the Bertrand Triangular.
The Mustangs fought off Elwood 42-36 and a lost to Bertrand 36-33.
In the Elwood match, Mark Haag won with a pin at 130 pounds, Will Haag posted a pin at 140 and Chris Quigley pinned his oponent at 215.
Mitchell Sheets (103), Lakene Lorimer (112), Ken O'Dea (119) and Travis Priest (189) won on forfeits.
Brett Longnecker (125) and Mike Slattery (171) were pinned. The Mustangs were open at 145, 152, 160 and 275 pounds.
In the loss to Bertrand, Will Haag won with pin at 135 and Priest at 189. The Mustangs won open weights at 103, 112 and 125 and lost open weights at 140, 152 and 171. Both teams were open at 145.
Dropping matches were O'Dea (119), Slattery (160), Thomas Helberg (2150 and Quigley (275).
McCook 9th grade boys teams 1-1 at North Platte
NORTH PLATTE -- The McCook High School ninth grade boys basketball A and B teams split gamesa at North Platte Thursday.
The Bison A team won 40-37 and the B team lost 44-29.
David Swisher led the A team with 11 points, followed by Craig Fritz 8, John Swanhorst 8, Brett Burton 7, Josh Cherry 3, Spencer DeBauche 2 and Brock Hubert 1.
Fritz grabbed 6 rebounds and had 5 steals. Cherry and Swanhorst each had 5 boards. Cherry added 3 steals.
Swisher scored 10 of the Bison team's 17 fourth quarter points. McCook overcame a 19-13 halftime deficit to the Bulldogs.
"For the first game, I thought we played pretty well," said McCook ninth grade boys basketball coach Dan Hilton. "There is a lot of room to become much better.
Nate Berry led the B team with 9 points, followed by Andy Lambing 7, David Cappel 4, Tom Power 4, Swisher 3 and DeBauche 2.
Lambing and Berry each had 6 rebounds and Swisher and Power 5 each. Power had 4 steals and Berry 3.
The Bison will host Southern Valley Monday for varsity only. The girls game is slated for 5 p.m., followed by the boys game.
