More wells completed for diesel recovery effort
RDG Geoscience and Engineering has completed an additional 18 recovery wells near McCook's 4-million gallon water storage tank.
The wells were placed in order to more aggressively work toward removing the diesel polluting the ground water surrounding the storage tank, said Bob Kalinski, engineer for RDG.
The new wells bring the total of recovery wells to 47. More wells are planned in the future as the recovery efforts continue.
The new wells are the beginning of a process Burlington Northern and RDG are working on to recover the diesel, which eventually will involve an on-site treatment facility. The new wells will use a vacuum technique. which will pull the contaminated water from the ground. The water will then be ran through a separator and an air stripping process.
Quarterly reports on the progress being made are available at the McCook Library.
