Free exercise
Dear Editor,
In response to Mike Hendricks' column on Judge Roy Moore:
The First Amendment to the Constitution states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ..." Judge Roy Moore is not Congress and is not attempting to establish a one-church nation.
He is, however, trying to freely exercise his faith. It is consistent with the "free exercise clause" that he should be able to place expressions of his faith in the public square, as should the Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, etc., and then let Americans who care to do so thoughtfully consider the claims of each.
The "Christian God" is a misnomer in reference to the contents of the Ten Commandments since it is a Jewish document given to Moses on Mt. Sinai.
If Judge Moore decides to run for public office, he has every right to do so as does any other citizen who meets the requirements.
Very sincerely yours,
Elmer and Tally Case
