Arthur L. Nelson
OBERLIN -- Arthur L. Nelson, 94, died Sunday (Nov. 16, 2003) at Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
He was born Dec. 26, 1909, to Adolph and Susan (Johnson) Nelson in Cherokee, Iowa. He was raised in Worthington, Minn., and attended school in Worthington.
On Aug. 17, 1934, he married Loretta Foster in Oberlin. The couple moved to a farm northeast of Oberlin in 1944, then moved to Oberlin. He worked as a farmer, for the City of Oberlin and owned a gas station in Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta (Foster) Nelson on Feb. 24, 2003; his parents; and four brothers, Emerald Critchfield, David Critchfield, Ed Nelson and Alfred Nelson.
Survivors include three daughters, Janette and husband, Howard Votapka, Idella Frickey and Patricia Whetzell, all of Oberlin; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home of Oberlin with the Revs. Nolan and Barbara Pierce officiating. Interment is at Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Thursday after 8 a.m.
Memorials may be given in his name to Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin.
