ORONOCO, Minn. -- George W. Norman, 72, died Saturday (Dec. 29, 2001) at his home in Oronoco.
He was born Aug. 8, 1929, at Wauneta to Frank Melvin and Anna Meta (Christenson) Norman.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1951.
On May 8, 1953, he married Eunice L. Kohmetscher at McCook. He was a police officer in Rochester, Minn., for 21 years, and retired in 1980. He was also a security guard at the Marquette Bank for 17 years, and a greeter at Wal-Mart.
He was a member of the Men's Prayer Breakfast Club, the Centorion's Police and Clergy Group, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officer Association, and was active in the Rochester Jail Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Norman; and one sister, Marcella.
Survivors include one daughter, Marsha Skogen and husband, Steve; two sons, Daniel and wife, Jody, and Chad and wife, Dawn, all of Rochester; four brothers, Elgin and wife, Jeanne of Rochester, Vernon "Bud" and wife, Marilyn of Faribault, Minn., Jim and wife, Cleone of Rochester, and Merl and wife, Anna Mae of Zumbro Falls, Minn.; two sisters, Betty Carey and husband, Bob of Palisade, and Lylas Hudson of Wauneta; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Stewartville Assembly of God Church in Stewartville, Minn., with the Rev. Brent Molskness officiating. Interment will be at the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery in rural Rochester.
