FRIEND -- Keith T. Bowen, 74, died Monday (Dec. 31, 2001) at the Friend Manor.
He was born March 12, 1927, on a farm near Beverly to James Fulton and Grace (Skelton) Bowen. He attended school at Trenton, graduating in 1945.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 21, 1945 to Jan. 28, 1947.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Beverly and engaged in farming with his twin brother, Kenneth William Bowen on the Bowen family farm.
On Sept. 11, 1949, he married Evelyn Lorraine Felker. Following farming, he worked as a mechanic in an alfalfa mill at Overton. From Overton the family moved to Bertrand where he operated the Standard Service Station. Later he worked for Hock Farm Supply, Anderson Repair, Bertrand Co-op, and the Hanson Cattle Feeders before his retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bertrand, and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Shauna Arehart; four brothers, John, Lyle, Ken and Dean Bowen; and two sisters, Maxine Bowen and Melba Sloan.
Survivors include his five children, Jane Arehart and husband, Robert of Friend, Jack Bowen and wife, Luann of Bertrand, Jim Bowen of Bertrand, John Bowen and wife, Darla of Phoenix, Ariz., and Julie Walston and husband, Jim of Ridgecrest, Calif.; two sisters, Judy Amos and husband, Ed of Arvada, Colo., and Lee Jones and husband, Walt of Longmont, Colo.; and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the Rev. David Carlson officiating. Interment will be at the Culbertson Cemetery in Culbertson.
Visitation will be Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Sandstrom Funeral Home in Bertrand.
Memorials may be given in his name.
