Velma M. Schuman
KEARNEY -- Velma Marie Schuman, 80, died Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2002) at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
She was born March 24, 1922, to Joseph and Rose (Kutcher) Vlasin in rural Hayes County.
On April 6, 1945, she married Maurice Albert Schuman in Atwood. The couple farmed west of Hayes Center until their retirement.
She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Trenton and the Palisade Holy Family Altar Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice on Sept. 9, 2001; and two brothers, Ladik Vlasin and Edward Vlasin.
Survivors include one son, Maurie and wife, Connie Schuman of Kearney; one daughter, Lynda and husband, Philip Ham of North Platte; two brothers, Joe and wife, Doris Vlasin and George and wife, Betty Vlasin, all of Hayes Center; two sisters, Gertrude Lankas of Atwood and Agnes Kurth of Culberston; two grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton with the Rev. Pat Murphy officiating. Interment will be in the Hayes Center Cemetery.
The rosary will be said today, 6:30 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home.
Visitation is today until the time of the rosary.
Memorials may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation for research.
