Iona Juanita (Myers) Horacek
WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- Iona Juanita (Myers) Horacek, 90, died Tuesday (Oct. 1, 2002) at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, Ill.
She was born Aug., 24, 1912, to Angus and Murrell (Ike) Myers in Hitchcock County. She graduated from McCook High School in 1929 and then from Denver General School of Nursing in 1932.
On April 15, 1934, she married Hans John Horacek. She worked at St. Catherine's Hospital. She was then employed as the school nurse for McCook City Schools from 1953-1974. In 1970, she was presented the Distinguished Service Award by the Nebraska Nurses Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hans; a brother, Arden Myers; and a sister, Lavonna Imel.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra and husband, Dale Sander of North Chicago, Ill; one brother, Adair Myers of McCook; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10 a.m., at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in McCook with the Rev. Samuel R. Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m.
