Leona G. Holst

Leona G. Holst, 96, died Thursday (Dec. 26, 2002) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born Sept. 24, 1906, to Robert T. and Emma Louise (Cordes) Meyer in Hamilton County. She grew up northeast of Hampton. She graduated from Pierce High School and received her bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She taught for several years.

On June 16, 1934, she married Arnold W. Holst and they resided in Lincoln and Norfolk before coming to McCook in 1944.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, the Peace Lutheran Guild, the Women's Missionary League and Lambda Gamma Sorority at UNL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold on March 21, 1995; son, Gordon in 2001; three brothers, Reuben Meyer, Elmer Meyer and Gilbert Meyer; and one sister, Selma Otto.

Survivors include one daughter, Ardis and husband, Neal Von Seggern of Newman Grove; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Carl Pullmann officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name and friends may call at the funeral home.
