Margaret Ann Stritt Haag
Margaret Ann Stritt Haag died Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) at Community Hospital of McCook. She was 79 years old.
Margaret was born Aug. 10, 1923, on a farm south of Indianola, to John and Anna Bridget (Lalley) Stritt. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1939.
Margaret taught in several rural school districts throughout Red Willow County from 1939 through 1944. She served as a Supply Clerk at the McCook Airbase in 1944 before transferring to Buckley Airfield in Denver, Colo. While in Denver, she attended Bonton Beauty Academy at night with her sister, Louise, graduating in 1947. She and her sister, Louise, ran the May Belle Beauty Shop in McCook until her marriage to Francis D. Haag on June 9, 1949, in Indianola. They made their home on a farm south of Bartley where she operated a beauty salon until the birth of their first son.
Margaret was a member of the St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Federated Women's Club of Bartley and served as a 4-H leader in Red Willow County. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, church activities, helping people and most of all her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Viola Millard and Louise Broz; and five brothers, Delbert, Leonard, Clarence, Herman and Elmer Stritt.
Survivors include her husband, Francis of Bartley; daughter, Marla and husband, Larry Lytle of McCook; two sons, Gayle Haag and wife, Elaine, of Bartley and Gary and wife, Cindy, of Dewey, Okla.; nine grandchildren, Meghan and Allison Lytle, Lucas, Buck, Shelby and Denton Haag, and Blaine Haag and wife, Tracie, Jessica Bortner and husband, Heath and Garrett Haag; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Connor Haag; one sister, Pauline and husband, Henry Fossen, of Indianola; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Alzheimer's Association or McCook Hospice.
Rosary will be Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Carpenter Funeral Home in Indianola.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Indianola with the Rev. Nicholas Baker officiating.
Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday until time of rosary.
