ARAPAHOE -- Donald Howard Andrews, 72, died Sunday (Feb. 23, 2003) at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln.

He was born Nov. 16, 1930, at Cambridge, to Donald C. and Nina E. (Baker) Andrews. He attended rural country school southwest of Holbrook and graduated from Holbrook High School with the Class of 1948. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On Oct. 29, 1950, he married Lucetta E. McCoy in Arapahoe. They lived on a farm southwest of Holbrook for a year then moved north of Holbrook where they farmed and ranched for the next 49 years. In February of 2000, they moved to Arapahoe.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Monument Lodge No. 293 AF&AM of Arapahoe. He was a charter member of the Holbrook Lions Club. He served on the Holbrook, Edison and Arapahoe Rural Fire District for 35 years. He received the Master Conservationist Award in 1984. He was a member of the Nebraska Grain Sorghum Association and was an Honorary Chapter Farmer of FFA. He helped the Arapahoe Area Substance Abuse Committee and was a Mycogen Seed Dealer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; and brothers-in-law, J.D. "Jake" McCoy and Lester Haussler. Survivors include his wife, Lucetta E. Andrews of Arapahoe; one daughter, Nancy P. and wife, Keith Rexroth of Sidney; four sons, D. Norman Andrews and wife, Bonnie of Dwight, Dennis Andrews and wife, Beth of Aurora, Matthew Andrews and wife, Barbara of Elwood and Thomas Andrews and wife, Debra of Holbrook; brothers, Robert Andrews and wife, Connie of Cambridge and Roger Andrews and wife, June of Grand Island; sister, Mary Alice and husband, Ron McPhee of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe with the Rev. Dr. Hyeongdong Baek officiating. Burial will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe with Masonic rites by the Arapahoe Monument Lodge No. 293 AF&AM.

Viewing and visitation will be today until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and prior to services Thursday at the church.
