Merna Shearer Haught

WILSONVILLE -- Merna Shearer Haught, 67, died Tuesday (May 6, 2003) at her home in Wilsonville.

She was born Jan. 1, 1936, at Hendley, to Frank and Ruth (Harrold) Brand. She grew up in the Hendley and Beaver City areas. She graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1953.

On July 8, 1953, she married Leroy Shearer at Norton, Kan. They moved to Wilsonville in 1961, where they farmed until his death.

On Jan. 6, 2001, she married James Haught. She sold Avon products for a number of years in the Wilsonville and Arapahoe areas.

She was a member of the Christian Church at Wilsonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Leroy Shearer on Sept. 16, 1999, James on Dec. 1, 2002; and one grandson.

Survivors include two sons, Kelvin Shearer and wife, Yvonne of Kearney and William Shearer and wife, Thersa of Arapahoe; one daughter, Carol and husband, Steve Lentell of Kearney; three step-sons, James Haught and wife, Diane of McGehee, Ark., David Haught and wife, Kateri of Brighton, Colo., and Frank Haught and wife, Kristin of Aurora, Colo.; one step-daughter, Eva Marie and husband, Marc Bell of Kennesberg, Colo.; six brothers, Eldon Brand and wife, Barb of Augusta, Kan., Frank Brand of Alamo, Calif., Robert Brand of Higley, Ariz., Richard Brand and wife, Jeanne of Alton, Ill., Harold Brand and wife, Joyce of Norfolk, Va., and Kenneth Brand of Kearney; four sisters, Arlene Anderson of Lexington, Ruth Little of Rocky Mount, N.C., Donna and husband, Jack Cusick of Littleton, Colo., and Patricia and husband, Lacy Hillyer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Baptist-Christian Church at Wilsonville with the Rev. Keith Theobald officiating. Burial will follow at the Wilsonville Cemetery at Wilsonville.

Viewing and visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services Monday at the church in Wilsonville.

Memorials may be given in her name.
