I have been a race fan for many years. I just can't believe anyone would write such nonsense as they did in Tuesday's paper. Does the writer have any knowledge of what maybe that race track does for our community? And, the part where a few local racers participate?
I have been going to the races here in McCook for the last four years. Each year, I see more and more local drivers. I would lean to bet there are more drivers from McCook than from North Platte. Besides, I feel the fairboard, the promoter and the county, have every legal grounds in promoting community events such as racing. For those who have opted to move close to the fairgrounds, you knew that when you moved in!
The fairgrounds have been in existence for many years. Along with the race track, we old timers can tell you that McCook hosted some of the finest racing in the 1960s, and still today provides great Friday night racing entertainment. So, leave the races alone. Leave them, or should I say, us race fans, alone! Close your windows and doors, turn up the TV for a few hours, for the season is about to begin!
