National Day of Prayer

Monday, April 28, 2003

Dear Editor,

Thursday, May 1, 2003, has been declared National Day of Prayer. This annual event was established by an act of Congress in 1952, which encourages Americans to pray for our nation, its people and its leaders.

The McCook Ministerial Association is sponsoring and the the Memorial United Methodist Church will host this year's event.

We will begin at noon with a prayer written by Dr. Luis Palau, 2003 National Day of Prayer Honorary Chairman. We will follow the prayer with a speech given by Father Barnhill, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church in Cambridge.

He will speak on this year's theme, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people."

We will serve lunch approximately 12:30 p.m.

We encourage all the people of our community to join us as we prayer for our nation's leaders, our state's leaders and our local leaders.
