Six agencies plan seminar on drug labs

In response to the increasing number of methamphetamine labs being discovered in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas, area law enforcement agencies are looking at ways to keep the public informed.

Six agencies are coming together to educate chemical and fertilizer dealers, farmers, landlords, store owners and anyone else interested on signs of a possible meth lab.

The McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department, McCook Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Red Willow County Attorney's office, Red Willow County Sheriff's Department and Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department will sponsor the seminar on Wednesday, March 5, 7 p.m., at the 4-H Building on the Red Willow County Fairgrounds.

The guest speaker will be Investigator Carlos Trevino of the Nebraska State Patrol Investigative Services. He will be accompanied by Brian Koerwitz, criminalist with the Nebraska State Patrol.

Topics of discussion will be meth awareness, the history of meth, indications of a meth user, meth toxicology, meth labs, "Nazi" meth, meth lab indicators, and local meth lab fire.

The general public is invited and encouraged to attend.
