Helm, Downer

James and Yanis Helm of Danbury announce the engagement of their daughter, Maria Yanis Helm, to Derek Stephen Downer, the son of Stephen and Patricia Downer of Bartley. Grandparents of the couple are John and Helen Helm of Norcatur, Kan., Efreen B. Rojas of David, Panama, the late Rosa Santiago de Rojas, Maxine Downer of Bartley; the late Kenneth Downer and Alice Rummel of Huntington Beach, Calif., and the late Julian Rummel. The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Twin Valley High School, a 2002 graduate of McCook Community College and she has plans to graduate in May 2004 from Hastings College with a baccalaureate degree in biology. The prospective bridegroom is a 2000 graduate of Twin Valley High School and also has plans to graduate in May 2004 from Hastings College with a baccalaureate degree in business and economics. The couple is planning a July 19, 2003, ceremony at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Indianola.
