Kaiser takes 2nd straight All-Class high jump crown

OMAHA -- Chase County-Imperial's Ed Kaiser topped off his storied high school career in "grand" fashion.
In addition to repeating as Class B state champion, Kaiser's effort of 6-foot-8 enabled to bring home a second straight gold medal as the "grand state" all-class champion.
Kiaser's performance was one of many strong efforts by McCook and Chase County athletes in the Class B division at the Nebraska State High School Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke Stadium.
The McCook boys tied with Gering and Norris for seventh with 23 points. Kaiser's first-place finish gave the Chase County boys 10 points and a tie for 17th.
The McCook girls finished 24th with 7 points and Chase County tied for 37th with 2.
Gothenburg won the Class B boys state title with 43 points, edging out second-place Seward and York by 3 points.
Lexington won the Class B girls state title with 55 points, clipping second-place Gering by 2 points.
McCook and Chase County medal-winners were:
* McCook's 4x100-meter relay of Krae Dutoit, Kyle Bedore, Ben Klug and Brendan Liess placed second with a time of 43.763.
* Liess placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.066 seconds.
* The Bison 4x400-meter relay of Derek Ruppert, Liess, Krae Dutoit and Klug placed third with a time of 3:25.031.
* McCook's Carl Fritz finished fourth in the boys triple jump with a personal-best mark of 44-5 1/2.
He was also seventh in the long jump at 20-10 3/4.
* Lisa Friehe finished third in the girls discus with a throw of 127 feet, 11 inches.
* Chase County's Cassy Hamilton finished fifth in the girls shot put with a mark of 40-10 1/4.
* McCook's Sunee Haney finished sixth in the girls pole vault. She cleared 10 feet.
Grand Island Central Catholic's Jenny Green, a University of Nebraska signee, set a meet record with a mark of 13 feet.
* McCook senior Jeremiah Herron finished fifth in the boys 3200-meter run with a career-best time of 9 minutes, 52.81 seconds.
* McCook's Trent Lyons placed sixth in the boys pole vault with a mark of 13-6 -- just missing his career-best by two inches.
McCook boys just missing medals were Nathan Reicks, seventh, discus, 143-8; and Andrew Yeager, eighth, 3200, 10:00.87.
Chase County's Nathan Wenzlick did not place in the high jump with his effort of 5-10 or in the 300 hurdles with his time of 40.758. John Strand did not place in the shot put with his mark of 49-7 3/4.
McCook girls not placing were:
Michelle Gaunt, long jump, 15-8 1/4; Jillian Bryant, triple jump, 31-6 3/4; Katherine Morell, triple jump, 31-0 1/4 and seventh, 27.392 (she was third in the preliminaries, 26.286); Amanda Bennett, high jump, 4-10 and 300 hurdles preliminaries, 49.883; 4x100 relay, 52.248; Maggie Jones, third 400 preliminaries, 1:00.55; and 4x400-meter relay, 4:16.604.
Chase County's Michelle Dill did not medal in the girls 800-meter run with her eighth-place time of 2:26.897. She placed sixth in the 400-meter prelims with a time of 1:01.61.
