IMPERIAL, Neb. — The Southwest Roughriders survived match point and finally subdued talented Chase County 19-25, 25-22, 28-26 Tuesday night. Chase County (17-10) showed why it is likely the hottest area volleyball team outside of Bartley entering this season’s final crucial weeks. Yet Southwest (23-0) behind double-digit killers all sharing the same last night: Atleigh Nelms (12 kills), Kyra Nelms (10) and Anikka Nelms (10). Freshman Apsen Billeter fed the big hitters with 29 assists and senior libero Allison VanPelt made another 14 digs. Senior classmate Anastasia Gallegos hustled for 13 digs and senior Peyton Truksa mixed in another five lethal shots past these tough Longhorns. Unfortunately, no Chase County stats were obtained. Southwest’s other win over North Platte St. Patrick’s featured Atleigh and Kyra Nelms with nine kills apice. Anikka Nelms added seven mostly off another 21 Billeter assists. Gallegos served an impressive four aces while Van Pelt and Kyra Nelms totaled two apiece. Watch for more details in upcoming editions of the Gazette as RPAC tourney is near.
