McCOOK, Neb. — At least two McCook seniors weren’t too impressed when their entire tennis season was wiped out because of a worldwide virus. “We’d just finished challenge matches,” senior Paige Wolcott recalled. “It was definitely a question,” doubles partner Harper Stevens said about returning to tennis . “We didn’t want to be too far behind...but we’d all gotten so close in summer camps and everything, we wanted to stick with it.”...

HASTINGS, Neb. – The McCook Community College baseball team extended its win streak to 12 games Wednesday sweeping the Hastings College JV team, 16-3 and 15-0. “Game 1 we took advantage of a few mistakes but had some good swings too,” said MCC Coach Jon Olsen. “In Game 2, I thought we just went out and really swing the bat well up and down the lineup, we got to play a lot of guys.”...

McCook and Southwest Nebraska lost another colorful character this past week with the passing of Ray Walter. Ray taught art for decades, instilling a love for all mediums of art in generations of school children. And then even after retiring, he couldn’t stay out of the classroom. OMAHA, Neb. — A Guiness World Record-holder has its roots in Southwest Nebraska. Unveiled at the annual Scooter’s Coffee GROW Conference in Omaha, the 848-pound, birthday-themed cake ball was baked from scratch and assembled by employees from Scooter’s Coffee-affilliated company, Harvest Roasting.
