Dangerous dog definitions considered, cat-at-large law may be dropped

McCOOK, Neb. — Under proposed new city laws, it will cost a little more to keep a dog that’s been deemed dangerous, but cats no longer have to be on a leash. City ordinances have been revised and created so laws about dangerous dogs are easier to enforce, potentially vague terms are eliminated and that city citizens are kept safe, said McCook City Manager Nate Schneider at the regular city council meeting Monday night. We don’t know how many McCook City Council members have heard about the Great Cat Leash Controversy of 1967, but they wisely avoided a similar flap by voting to drop a cat-at-large ordinance from the books. They also voted to more closely clarify what constitutes a dangerous or potentially dangerous dog. Dog owners should take a close look at the proposed ordinance before getting their hackles up; the wording seems to be reasonable about allowing dogs to be dogs while advancing public safety...
