By setting the same levy as last year the City of McCook will get $28,687 more from property taxes than was realized last year. An easy solution: decrease the levy to meet the $1.39 million preliminary figure that was used to create the new budget. ...

McCOOK, Neb. — Making a transfer from inheritance, reducing the health department’s tax request and looking for cuts in the road budget may mean that Red Willow County can offset somewhat a nearly $32 million drop in valuation. McCook CPA Dan Miller, who prepares the budget for the county, told commissioners Monday morning that a preliminary budget indicates a tax levy of $0.318864, up from $0.0302105 in 2017-18, if they transfer $500,000 from inheritance and reduce the health department’ tax request by $15,000. ...
