I read a couple of posts on Facebook this past week that were pretty hard to believe. One said they would trust a Russian before a Democrat and the other asserted that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were the two biggest terrorists in the world. We’ve always had partisan politics because each side has what they believe to be their own best way of governing and it tends to conflict directly with the way the other party sees it. ...

Area alums earn academic honors

CRETE, Neb. — A tro of McCook-area high school graduates have earned Great Plains Athletic Conference scholar-athlete honors while competing for Doane College. Students must own a minimum 3.3 grade-point average throughout the academic year. The collisions were great during a super-close season opener between Eagles and Redskins at Weiland Field Thursday night. The Eagles eventually prevailed 13-12 to start 1-0 in McCook Football League fifth and sixth-grade play. GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) have seized 168 pounds of marijuana and arrested two people following two separate traffic stops in Hamilton County. The first traffic stop occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, just north of Interstate 80 on the Giltner spur, after a trooper observed a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe fail to signal.
