County board hopes to avoid tax-levy hike

McCOOK, Neb. — Deciding the 2017-18 county budget is still not final, two Red Willow County commissioners said at their weekly meeting Monday morning that they would like to retain last year’s tax levy. Commission chairman Earl McNutt said with “that kind of an increase” in the county’s total valuation — from $1,260,031,821 in 2016-17 to $1,296,905,931 for 2017-18, an increase of $36,874,110 — “we’d hope we could balance the budget without increasing the levy.”...
