ISIS gets much of its funding from black-market sales of oil, and there's little doubt we would be embroiled in Middle East conflicts if we didn't depend on countries there for this vital liquid. Renewable fuels have their critics, but a look at the numbers make them more attractive, especially from the perspective of economic development and as an alternative to military intervention to secure foreign supplies...

Trenton airport closed for lack of activity

TRENTON, Neb. -- So few planes have been using the Trenton Municipal Airport that when a beacon recently broke, the village board decided it made more sense to close the airport than to repair the light. Village Clerk Wendy McKain said repairing the damaged beacon would be a problem, but the lack of activity at the airport was the real reason behind its closing...

McCook seeks air service proposals

McCOOK, Neb. -- The McCook airport has begun the process of renewing its Essential Air Service contract and city staff hopes a new contract is also the first step in renewing confidence in local air travel.
