Caring community responds to loss of cafe
(Editorial ~ 07/22/13)
They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. That isn't entirely true; judging from the response to the fire at Fuller's Family Restaurant, the route is the same no matter the gender. Hundreds of people lined B Street Saturday night to watch the blaze, but many of them came back Sunday afternoon to help Val Fuller and Linda Thayer in any way they could, specifically carefully wrapping and packing away as many of the 3,800 cookie jars in Linda's collection that survived the conflagration.. ...

More on the Frontier County murder
(Column ~ 07/22/13)
Recently we took note of the McCook Trumpet account of a gruesome murder in Frontier County in 1884. It would seem to be in keeping to take a look at that murder in a bit more detail. One of the principal players in the story was the presiding Judge in that case, Judge William H. Allen, the Frontier County Judge, the ancestor of at least two current, prominent Red Willow County citizens, Michelle (Mrs. Tim) Lytle, and Patsy Lee Redfern...

Prosperity message is relative, new pastors say (Local News ~ 07/22/13)
McCOOK, Nebraska -- The popular prosperity message preached from some pulpits has been construed by many as a prayer for riches and fortune. That's not really the case, say the new co-pastors at McCook Harvest Church, David and Joanne Wilson. The Lord wants people to be a success in every area of life, the Wilson's believe, to "live life and live it abundantly," as Scripture says. But the prosperity message is relative, stressed Joanne... -

Fight on (Column ~ 07/22/13)
For the last several months I have been keeping a regular appointment with an oncologist. I'm not the one receiving care, however. My friend has lung cancer, and I have been accompanying her as she receives weekly doses of chemotherapy. These cancer treatments are administered in an "infusion laboratory." If you have never been in one, and I hope you never have the occasion, they are all fairly uniform in design and purpose. ... -

We live in a world filled with bad news. We hear of terrible things happening in our world each and every day. It would be easy to get down about this and become depressed, but there is Good News that can lift us up and give us hope. The Good News we hear from John's gospel is that Jesus Christ has come into the world as the Light of the world and that light shines for all to see. ... -
