Gerald and Jessie Manley of McCook enjoy the shade of the Kentucky Coffee Tree that was planted in Norris Park in memory of her grandparents, John and Lillie Wallace. John was a park caretaker/maintenance person for the city from the 1930s to the 1950s, Jessie said, and carried water from Norris Park to water the newly planted trees in Bolles Canyon, as there wasn't a water source at that time near the canyon. ...

Highway 46 to be closed for construction

If you live in Southwestern Nebraska one can almost daily pick up the newspaper and find an announcement for a celebration for 25, 40 and the big one, 50 years of married life. On occasion it will speak of 60 years married and rarely 75 years. How in the world do people stay married, one man one woman for all those many years?...

A favorite church hymn, "His Eye Is On the Sparrow," certainly applies to the State of Nebraska. We are located in a major fly zone for birds. Sparrows come here in large flocks.
