(Column ~ 11/09/12)

For overachievers everywhere
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
Scientists have a name for it: Ergomania. It is a word composed of two Latin roots. "Ergo," meaning work, and "mania," which means passion. Ergomania, thusly, is a "passion for work." In contemporary society we use a different term for an individual suffering from this condition: The "workaholic." The condition is not limited to corporate offices or the manufacturing plant. It thrives in houses of worship...

Faith; an all or nothing proposition
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
HE alone teaches Truth. This Truth can only come by a COMPLETE FILLING of MY SPIRIT which can only be had by a FULL SURRENDER to ME (Jesus - your SAVIOR). Luke 14:27 (KJV): And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after ME, cannot be MY disciple. You most die to the unholy trinity sitting in the throne of your heart: Me, Myself and I; so the Holy Trinity can sit in the throne of your heart: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit...

Shrug it off and skip after your next adventure
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
Declan came home from school earlier this week and informed me he voted for "Ritt Romney" for president. Apparently his class conducted a mock election of sorts and he was tickled to have placed his name in the box next to "Ritt's" name. I happened to approve of his choice, but I was a little surprised that he didn't choose the other box, since he said it represented a vote for "Bronco Bama." After all, his favorite shirt is his Denver Bronco's jersey...

Keeping priorities straight with veterans
(Editorial ~ 11/09/12)
Bob Kerrey's status as a former Navy Seal and a winner of the Medal of Honor weren't enough to overcome voters' reservations about his political leanings, loyalty to the state and other questions. But the former governor, seeking a return engagement in the Senate, did make a good point in one of his television ads, one that didn't question his opponent's dealings with her neighbors...

The numbers behind the numbers
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
At first glance, the presidential election results look similar to what was projected. Obama received a little over 3 million more votes than Romney did which accounts for about a three percent edge and he garnered 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206 (Romney has conceded Florida, although it has not been officially called yet). So it was close, but not as close as many were predicting...

Crunch time for Congress
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
Nebraskans should know that there's plenty to be done when Congress returns after this week's election. Although the period between the election and the start of the next Congress is called a "lame duck session," the 112th Congress has left so much undone that there is a serious 'to-do' list waiting in Washington. There are numerous financial, national security, budgetary, and taxation issues that need to be attended to before the 113th Congress convenes in 2013. Here are some of them:...

Veterans Day, a time for reflection, repayment
(Column ~ 11/09/12)
Through the many changes during our nation's history, some things remain constant: America's dedication to democracy and the commitment of the men and women who defend it by putting their lives on the line for the ideals we hold dear. As we reflect upon another Veterans Day, we remember those who sacrificed so much for our great country. Our military heroes left the comfort of family and friends and often put themselves into harm's way to protect and preserve our way of life...
