Largest tax increase in history looms
(Column ~ 09/15/10)
I had the opportunity last month to visit with many of you throughout the state, and it should come as no surprise that the primary concern among most Nebraskans continues to be jobs and our economy. I've returned to Washington with this fresh in my mind, just as the debate has begun on the tax increase set to go into effect on January 1...

Running barefoot
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/15/10)
I read with great amusement Rick Poore's letter ("Rants out of place," Sept. 14) regarding Dick Trail's "partisan political diatribes," and why the Gazette would publish such things. (Column ~ 09/15/10)
When I was a seventh-grader at North Arvada Junior High, I watched the custodian help the gym teacher assemble several pieces of some rather odd-looking equipment one day. It was gymnastic equipment, I was told -- the pommel horse, the balance beam and my personal favorite, the uneven bars. Apparently, the school district transported the equipment from school to school throughout the year and it was finally our turn...
