Samantha Brown signs with MCC volleyball

McCook High School's Samantha Brown has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball this fall at McCook Community College. Brown, 5 foot-10, is expected to play middle or right side for the Indians, according to MCC coach Gary Payne. "She is a pretty good blocker and that is something that we really didn't do a good job at last year," Payne said, adding that blocking is one area the team will be focusing on in practice this next season...

I am writing in regard to what Dick Trail wrote about the Senior Center. He stated that he thought the Senior Center was competing against the local restaurants for eating meals. Where in town could you get a good balanced meal for $2.50, which includes vegetables and dessert? You could stop on Norris Avenue and get a cup of coffee and large roll and pay almost as much as the seniors pay for a good meal...

Taking the blinders off

It's probably time for a new eyeglass prescription. I find myself taking my glasses off numerous times a day and laying them aside, preferring to squint rather than to wear them. It's time, taking its inevitable toll. These old peepers take in a lot of information on any given day, from the first glance at the digital readout on the alarm clock to the final word on the printed page fading as I drift off to sleep, more often than not, the book still propped up in front of me...
