Curtis nursing home closing skilled care section in January

Within an hour of the picture of traffic on Norris Avenue, a large limb in front of the stucco fence at Jan and Van Korell's home at 602 Norris Ave. crashed to the sidewalk. Weather forecasters predict up to 10 inches of snow on top of the ice, which forced the closures of schools and the cancellation of activities for today. And, Thursday's forecast doesn't look much better...

Most of us were able to stay safely inside today, hoping the ice doesn't bring down power lines and that no emergency arises to force us to travel. And snow was expected to follow this morning's ice, with a foot or more possible before it's over. Perhaps you're even reading this online or a day late because the storm has interfered with newspaper delivery...

Yep, it finally arrived, our annual real estate tax bill, and we were not disappointed in our prediction that there would be a substantial increase in the school portion of the bill. As you know, we were dragged, kicking and screaming, into the K-12 complex. I am sure the K-12 officials are licking their chops for all the extra cash they now have to cast into the bottomless pit...
