To Steve Stramel and all who agree with him: Along with several hundred others, I marched in the parade that opened Santa Claus Lane about 60 years ago. What a wonderful use of technology! McCook took pride then and should still take pride in the display of the highly reflective material used on the figures, among the first such uses in the nation...

Geez, I think we have a scrooge in our small area. What is wrong with you Mr. Stramel, Santa Claus Lane is part of McCook history. When I was a child, I looked forward to Santa Slaus Lane. It was part of celebrating Christmas. When I moved away for a time, every time I came back to visit, I took my boys up and down Norris to see Santa Claus Lane. If you don't like it then don't look at it, and as far as money (goes), what would you want to spend the money on, more golf courses?...

Manslaughter charges filed in death of motorist

Manslaughter charges were brought against Kyle Serocki, 24, in Red Willow County Court Thursday, in the Oct. 7 fatality death of Nicholas Mead, 25, of Cambridge. The case was bound over to District Court for arraignment Jan 8 at 9:30 a.m. Serocki, originally of Olathe, Kan., was charged in Count I with unintentionally causing the death of Mead, driving on the wrong side of the road and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a Class III felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. ...
