However, sitting alone in McCook Junior High's cavernous cafeteria late Monday evening waiting out the school board's closed session, a quick succession of thunderous, echoing "BANG! BANG! BANG!" and "BANG!" "BANG!" made me jump right out of my chair...

I mentioned in this space a couple of weeks ago how important peoples' "special" days are and how we should make every effort to remember them. I had one of those special days myself last Saturday. Another year has come and gone in my life and another birthday had to be confronted. I use the word "confront" because birthdays are different than they used to be...

Leeding the way

Ah, I loved the letter to the editor pointing out the paper's misuse of the words there, their and they're which are all pronounced the same way. The best part was spotting Robert's use of the word lead (meaning the heavy metal) when he meant led (as in show the way, the past tense). That is a tricky one because we use lead (spelled like the heavy metal but pronounced like "leed" which isn't a real word) also meaning show the way but in the present tense!...
